Maps, lists and points: terminology

When creating your project on Wemap, or during our training sessions, you will often hear the following terms: Point, List, and Map. But what do they mean?

Points:

Also called POIs, points of interest, or markers, they are a visual representation of a place on Earth.

In Wemap, points always have:

  • A name
  • A geolocated location (address or GPS coordinates)

The appearance of points is customizable and varies according to your project type:

  • Icon

  • Image

Points can be enriched with as much information as needed, which will appear in the point details and be viewable by your visitors: images and media, description, event dates associated with the location, external links…

To display your points on the map, they must belong to at least one list.

The list:

A list is a set of points belonging to the same project or having common characteristics.

You can create as many lists as desired to organize your points according to your logic.

There are several ways to create your lists on Wemap pro:

  • Manually
  • File import
  • Connection to an external data source

The same list can be connected to multiple maps.

The map:

A map is the container for the points and lists you have created. It is customizable through the options on Wemap pro.

Once connected, changes made to a list are automatically reflected on the map.
