News and best practices

πŸ“Š Are you using the Microsoft Excel connector?

The Microsoft Excel connector allows you to import your data into Wemap Pro and keep it automatically updated. With each modification in your Excel file, the information is synchronized in your lists and on your maps, without having to manually re-import your file.

This operating mode is simpler on a daily basis than the classic import of an XLSX file and does not require the use of Google Sheets: you continue to work directly in Excel.

πŸ‘‰ Our help article Using the Microsoft Excel connector details the connector setup and the information to enter when creating a list.

We also explain, step by step, how to generate and retrieve your App ID, Secret and Tenant ID on the Microsoft platform β€” a sometimes technical process.

You will find all the necessary instructions to configure the connector autonomously.

πŸ—“οΈ The OpenAgenda connector is evolving!

  • What is OpenAgenda?

OpenAgenda is an online platform that allows you to create, manage and broadcast collaborative event agendas. The data can then be easily shared via exports or an API.

  • What's changing?

OpenAgenda now requires you to be logged in to retrieve a JSON export.

In practical terms, to create a new list, you must add your public key in the JSON export URL of the agenda.

πŸ‘‰ This parameter is in the form: &key=YOUR_PUBLIC_KEY   (available in your OpenAgenda account).

  • What about lists already created?

They continue to synchronize for now. However, we recommend recreating your lists with the new version of the connector to ensure their proper functioning.

πŸ‘‰ Find our detailed guide to create your map from the OpenAgenda connector.

What's new on Wemap Pro

πŸ“ How to improve the display of your points on a map?

When a map contains many points of interest, the challenge is to make the information readable and useful for the user. Displaying everything at once can quickly become unreadable: you need to be able to highlight certain elements and adapt the display according to the context.

πŸ‘‰ That's exactly what Le Petit FutΓ© did: with more than 1 million mapped points, they had to find a way to guide travelers in their discovery. Thanks to display rules, points are displayed progressively according to the zoom level and certain POIs (for example must-see places) appear as a priority. Result: a rich but clear map that facilitates navigation

Good news: these display rules are available directly on Wemap.

For example, you can:

  • Adjust the size of points based on zoom level or a tag;
  • Highlight certain POIs so they appear before others.

Let's take a concrete example

Imagine a map that references several thousand restaurants:

  • At the first zoom level, only the most well-known or highly rated restaurants appear.
  • By zooming in, other establishments are displayed progressively.
  • Certain POIs (e.g. your partners) are displayed as a priority to always be visible.

πŸ‘‰ Result: the user doesn't get lost in the mass of information and maintains a smooth and useful experience.

What about monetization? Create new opportunities with your maps

These display rules also offer monetization opportunities:

  • Highlighting certain points can become a premium service offered to your partners or members (e.g. priority display of a partner hotel on a tourist map).
  • Sponsored POIs can be visible from the first zoom levels, ensuring better visibility.
  • You can thus enrich the user experience while creating new revenue sources linked to your maps.

When the Ministry of Culture personalizes the map experience with Wemap

In 2025, the 42nd European Heritage Days will take place from September 19 to 21 around the theme of architectural heritage. Since 1984, this unmissable event has opened thousands of places to the public and offers activities, visits and discoveries to showcase the cultural richness of our territories.

This year, the Ministry of Culture is once again offering the online program with Wemap. The interactive map remains the gateway to discover events, but is now integrated into a completely redesigned site to reflect the institution's visual identity and enrich visitors' experience.

Map of the 2025 European Heritage Days, extracted from the Ministry of Culture's major national events site

πŸ”Ή The need: a redesigned site, but still centered on the map

The Ministry of Culture wanted to modernize the site for major national events, such as the European Heritage Days.

Objectives:

  • Redesign the site to reflect their visual identity,
  • Keep the map as the main gateway to navigate the program,
  • Boost natural referencing thanks to dedicated pages per event,
  • Offer a smooth experience adapted to visitors.

Until then, the integration was based on a simple Wemap embed. For the redesign, they needed to go further: keep the power of the map while moving away from a standardized design.

πŸ”Ή The solution: API + Wemap JS SDK for customized design

To achieve these objectives, the Ministry of Culture team relied on two Wemap technological building blocks:

  • Wemap Pro as a CMS to manage data and its display,
  • Wemap API and Wemap JS SDK to control integration and create a 100% custom experience.

1. A single CMS to manage content

From Wemap Pro, teams configure filters, categories and tags. This configuration is directly retrieved via the Wemap API, which feeds the filter menu on the site.

πŸ‘‰ Result: the ministry keeps control over content structuring without depending on developers.

2. A results panel recreated in their image

The ministry was able to completely redesign the list of results below the map. Rather than using the standard display, they relied on the Wemap API to retrieve data and display it in their own design.

3. Unique pages per event

To strengthen search engine optimization (SEO) and improve navigation, each event now has its dedicated page.

  • The Wemap API provides data for each POI,
  • The SDK maintains consistency with the map and integrates interactions.

πŸ‘‰ Result: better visibility in search engines, and a more complete experience for the visitor.

πŸ”Ή The benefits: customized, but still easy to manage

  • A respected visual identity, without compromising on map experience,
  • A single CMS (Wemap Pro) to manage content and filters,
  • A flexible integration thanks to the API and SDK, which allows customization without technical complexity,
  • Better natural referencing, with unique pages per event,
  • A smooth user experience: the map remains the central point, enriched by adapted results and detailed pages.

πŸ”Ή To go further

Do you want to go beyond a simple embed integration?

With Wemap APIs and SDKs, you can build a mapping experience that reflects your identity, improves your visibility and remains simple to administer thanks to Wemap Pro.

✨ Special mention to Camille Jouaber who led this redesign brilliantly, supported by Victor Puntonet and guided by the expert eye of ValΓ©rie Martinez. A golden team, with whom it's a real pleasure to work!
